Karissa and Sam, the voices behind Pretty Girl Parade, were used to their friends asking them for advice about beauty and fashion. Over the last year, they decided to share all of the advice they'd been doling out, and their blog was born. The duo chatted with us via email about their blog, giving advice and finding inspiration. See what they had to say below:
What made you decide to start blogging?
For years, we have both enjoyed reading countless blogs and loved the fashion inspiration and real-life content. Our friends were reaching out to us on beauty and fashion advice, so we thought, why not start a platform where we could share all of this? If we can someday make this into a career, it would be a huge bonus.
What advice would you give to someone just starting a lifestyle or fashion blog?
We are also in the beginning stages, having just started our blog four months ago. Our advice would be to stay consistent with posting - we have a Wine Down Wednesday post where our friends and followers submit questions that we answer and we post it each Wednesday. Also, ask your followers what they want to see more of!
Where do you find inspiration for your posts?
We listen to our followers about what content they want to see from us, but we also take a lot of inspiration from other popular bloggers that we look up to! There are blogs like Gal Meets Glam and Somewhere Lately that we have been reading for years, and they are a huge inspiration to us.
Do you have a favorite post - or one you're particularly proud of?
We talk about so many different things on the blog: houses, weddings, dogs, fashion, and they are so different and so important to us, which makes it a little tough to have a favorite. The Charleston post holds a special place in our hearts as we love traveling, and it was our first post!
How would you describe your personal style?
Since we co-run the blog, you'll see a little variation in our two styles, but for the most part we have a pretty classic style, a bit trendy. Sam's a little edgier and Karissa a little preppier, but we mesh well together.
What is the best piece of style advice you've ever received?
One of the best pieces of advice we received, and one we are focusing on now is to invest in a few quality pieces that can be worn over the years. You will start to see your closet slowly minimize. If you have a couple quality pairs of jeans, shoes, and blazers that you gravitate towards, you will see that you don't spend money on ten cheap cardigans you'll never wear.
