Blog Spotlight: A Fancy Wrinkle

Columbus fashion blog - A Fancy Wrinkle

Local blogger Kendra Singh loves a good deal - almost as much as she loves sharing her finds! She started blogging at A Fancy Wrinkle as a way to keep readers updated about deals and has expanded her topics to include style inspiration, trend updates, tips for shopping locally, and more! Singh was kind enough to answer some questions for us about blogging, finding inspiration and her favorite style advice.

You've had your blog for a couple of years now. What made you decide to start blogging?

I started blogging because I kept having people that would come up to me and say, "Love that top/dress/outfit/purse, where did you get it?," and the best part about answering that question was the, "I got it for only $XX!" I started shopping for my friends and picking out items for them to wear, or even just telling them where to go if they were in a wardrobe rut. My blog is really a hobby for me and has grown over the years and evolved to not just a deal blog, but also a place for those looking for outfit ideas, work outfits and local finds here in Columbus.

What advice would you give to someone just starting a lifestyle or fashion blog?

Make sure you have a clear vision of WHY you want to get into blogging and keep that in the back of your head as you go forward and grow. Your WHAT may evolve over time once you have found new ideas you like and your life changes. The WHY is so important to keep strong on. For me, it's always been about helping out my friends to make shopping easier. If I make money along the way or get free stuff...all the better, but my WHY is always around helping others.

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

Many different places. I may be looking for something and can't find it, so I'll create my own post or a friend may come to me and say, "Hey, I'm going to a wedding, where can I find a dress for it for cheap?"

How would you describe your personal style?

I'm all about comfort, so I have a lot of t-shirts, leggings, jeans and oversized sweaters. Seventy-five percent of my clothing is for work though. I would say I have a classic style with a trendy spin here and there. I try to keep up with the styles, and I for sure know about them...I just may not execute on all of them. (I can't get down with overalls coming back!)

What is the best piece of style advice you've ever received?

When I was little, I used to spend a lot of time with our neighbors after school and all of the kids were boys. The mom (my second mother) would always give me great fashion advice, and she always told me two things:

  1. NEVER have chipped nail polish...it's better to have none than chipped; and
  2. Do not let your bra straps show.

To this day, I still follow her advice!
