Blog Spotlight: Wander & Whine

Columbus, Ohio blog - Wander and Whine

The duo behind the local blog Wander & Whine love Columbus, fashion, food, and more - and share a passion for writing about these topics. Alicia and Alexis met as coworkers and quickly became friends and then co-bloggers. They were kind enough to chat with us about blogging, finding inspiration and discovering your personal style - see what they had to say:

You've been blogging for quite some time. What made you decide to start blogging?

We were looking for a creative outlet and thought it would be fun to start a blog. We already loved to explore Columbus, try new restaurants, and travel, so we decided to put it all in one place.

What advice would you give to someone just starting a lifestyle or fashion blog?

Keep at it and don't take it so seriously. It took six months before we got any traction. You put a lot of time and effort into blogging, so it's a disappointment when you don't have an audience, but don't let it get to you. Enjoy what you're doing and don't focus on the numbers. This is supposed to be fun!

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

All lot of it is based on what's going on around town, which is a lot! We never have trouble generating new post ideas because of how varied the lifestyle genre can be. We don't focus on one thing, so it's easy to post about everything from fashion to recent vacations to a new restaurant that just opened. It also helps that we both have our specialties -- Alicia focuses on food, and Alexis writes mostly about travel. It helps us build a balanced, varied site that plays to our personalities and strengths.

How would you describe your personal style?

We are actually very different! Alicia gravitates towards prints, color, interesting detail, and graphics. Alexis takes a minimalist and preppy approach, picking items that are structured, well-made, and mostly black. Her favorite pieces are outerwear for every season. We both share an affinity for stripes and leopard, though -- those are neutrals for us!

What is the best piece of style advice you've ever received?

First, give yourself permission to skip trends that don't serve your style. You've got to wear what makes you happy--even if people give you side eye over it. It's funny to see this manifest itself differently as we build and curate our closets, but that's what personal style is!
